Questions patients ask

Do I need a letter from my doctor to come?

No. You can call us directly. If you have a letter from another doctor, please bring it.

What should I bring?

Your medical records, discharge summaries, test reports and scans, and your medicines or a list of them. If you have diabetes, bring your recent sugar readings.

Why is my wound not healing?

There is usually a reason. Common reasons are poor blood flow, diabetes, swollen veins in the legs, infection, pressure on the wound, poor nutrition and smoking. Finding and treating the reason is the most important part of treatment. Read more about wounds that do not heal.

How often will I need to come?

It depends on your wound and its treatment. The doctor will tell you at your first visit.

Will the treatment hurt?

Some treatments can be uncomfortable for a few days. Pain can usually be controlled with pain medicines. If you have pain that is getting worse, tell us.

How much will the treatment cost?

It depends on what treatment you need: dressings, compression garments, procedures, operations and hospital stay all change the cost. You can ask the doctor about the approximate cost before you start.

Should I stop my medicines before a procedure?

Do not stop any medicine on your own. Tell the doctor about everything you take, especially blood thinners and herbal or ayurvedic medicines. The doctor will tell you what to do, and may ask your heart doctor or physician first.

Does smoking matter?

Yes. Smoking slows wound healing. Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for your wound.

How do I care for my wound or limb at home?

We will explain how to care for your wound, change dressings, use compression garments and exercise. Come back for your follow-up visits, so we can check how you are healing.
